Short answer: a properly built custom carbon fiber steering wheel runs $800 to $1,900 for most BMW, Mercedes-AMG, Corvette and Porsche builds, and $2,500 to $3,200 for exotics like McLaren, Lamborghini and Ferrari. At Miami Carbon Designs our wheels start at $799 and most customers land between $1,049 and $1,449.

Here is what actually moves the price, so you can compare quotes properly.

What you are paying for

A custom steering wheel is not a cover. Your factory wheel shape is rebuilt on an OEM core (the same metal skeleton your car came with), then wrapped by hand in real carbon fiber, leather or Alcantara. That is why it bolts on, keeps your airbag and keeps your controls. The core, the hand work and the materials are the three things you are paying for.

The four things that change the price

1. Carbon fiber finish

Gloss twill is the baseline. Matte carbon and forged carbon add labor and material and typically add $100 to $200. Colored carbon (blue, red, yellow weave) sits in the same range.

2. Grip material

Nappa leather, perforated leather and Alcantara are all available. Alcantara is the most requested for a motorsport feel. Stitching color and a 12 o’clock center stripe are usually included in the base price.

3. LED shift light display

An integrated LED RPM display at the top of the wheel is the single biggest add on, usually $200 to $350, because it requires wiring and a controller that reads your car’s RPM.

4. Paddle shifters and trim

Carbon paddle shifters run about $199 in gloss, matte or forged, and $349 for magnetic paddles. Custom center trim and airbag surround color are add ons on some platforms.

Why the $300 wheels on Amazon are a different product

Cheap wheels are usually a wrap or a hollow replica shell. Common problems we see when customers come to us after buying one: the airbag does not seat correctly, the buttons stop working, the carbon is a printed film that peels, and the shape does not match the car, so it never sits straight. The cost of fixing a bad wheel is usually the cost of a good wheel.

How payment works
